Lions Clubs International District 60B Donates to Support Children Receiving Care at QEH

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) has received a donation of books, toys, toiletries, and other essential items from Lions Clubs International District 60B to support children receiving care at the hospital.

The donation was presented as part of the District’s focus on paediatric cancer and was received by Dr. Gillian Birchwood, Head of Paediatrics.

District Governor Judy King said the initiative reflects the organisation’s commitment to supporting children living with cancer and raising greater awareness of the challenges they face.

“Paediatric cancer is one of the District’s highlighted projects,” she said. “Today is very special because we can visit the children, spend time with them, read with them, and remind families that Lions are here to help.”

Dr. Birchwood expressed appreciation for the donation, noting that while children undergoing cancer treatment often spend extended periods in hospital, many other young patients also benefit from activities and supplies that provide comfort and distraction during their stay.

“Children need opportunities to play, read and engage in meaningful activities while they are in hospital,” she said. “These donations help improve their hospital experience while also providing practical support for families, many of whom face significant financial and emotional challenges during a child’s illness.”

She added that items such as books, toys and personal care supplies make a tangible difference to both patients and caregivers, particularly for families whose hospital stays may extend over weeks or months.

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital extends its sincere thanks to Lions Clubs International District 60B for its generous contribution and continued commitment to supporting the wellbeing of children and families in Barbados. Partnerships such as these continue to enhance patient care and demonstrate the positive impact of community support within the healthcare system.
