Ghanaian Nurses Join Queen Elizabeth Hospital to Strengthen Healthcare Delivery
Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), the primary acute care medical facility in Barbados, has welcomed over 150 nurses from Ghana to help meet the island’s growing healthcare needs. This recent arrival marks the third cohort of Ghanaian nurses to join the QEH, following earlier groups that arrived during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in June 2020.

The nurses were greeted at the Grantley Adams International Airport by Senator Dr. The Most Honourable Jerome Walcott, Minister of Health and Wellness, who expressed his optimism about the positive impact this team will bring. According to Dr. Walcott, some of these healthcare professionals will be assigned to critical departments within QEH, including Accident and Emergency, Intensive Care, Surgical, and Dialysis units. Others will join different branches of the Ministry of Health and Wellness, bolstering healthcare services across Barbados.
This collaborative initiative between Ghana and Barbados demonstrates the commitment of both countries to addressing global healthcare challenges through shared expertise and resources. By integrating these experienced nurses into the Barbados healthcare system, QEH and the Ministry of Health aim to improve patient care and alleviate the pressure on local healthcare professionals, ensuring that residents receive timely and quality care.
