Public Advisory: Increased Demand at QEH Accident & Emergency Department

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) advises the public that its Accident & Emergency Department (AED) continues to experience significant patient demand, including a notable increase in trauma-related emergencies resulting from motor vehicle accidents and altercations.

These cases often require immediate and substantial clinical resources for emergency assessment, treatment and intervention. Consequently, patients with non-life-threatening conditions may experience longer-than-usual waiting times while critical and trauma cases are prioritised.

Alternatives for Non-Emergency Care

For non-emergency care or medical advice, members of the public are encouraged to:

  • Call PALS at 536-4800, daily from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Visit their nearest polyclinic
  • Visit the Sir Winston Scott Polyclinic, which operates 24 hours a day
  • Consult a private healthcare provider

Persons experiencing a critical or life-threatening emergency should continue to seek immediate care at the QEH Accident & Emergency Department.

Families are also asked to collect discharged patients promptly to help support patient flow.

The QEH thanks the public for its patience, understanding and cooperation as our healthcare teams manage the increased demand.
