The Pulse Radio Show 505 | Technology Transforming Patient Care
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s ongoing digital transformation was the focus of Season 5, Episode 5 of The Pulse Radio Show, which aired on Monday, June 29, 2026 on Q100.7 FM.
Host Shane Sealy, Communications Specialist at the QEH, was joined by Dr. Gerry Warner, Acting Director of Support Services, for a discussion on the hospital’s transition from paper-based systems to a more modern, digital approach to healthcare delivery.
Dr. Warner explained that the implementation of the Universal Health Information System forms part of the QEH Strategy 2025–2028 and is being rolled out in stages. Initial areas include the Staff Health and Wellness Clinic, Outpatients Pharmacy and Medical Records. He noted that while some delays have occurred during the transition, teams are actively addressing concerns in real time.
The episode also highlighted the digitisation of more than 90,000 paper records, future plans for a patient app and web portal, and the potential for patients to access appointments, prescriptions and selected health information more conveniently.
Listeners also raised questions about pharmacy services, medication delivery, medical records, and contingency plans. Dr. Warner assured the public that backup systems and disaster recovery plans are in place, with further improvements planned, including upgrades to the hospital’s telephone system.
