QEH Temporarily Relocates Post-Mortem Services During Mortuary Modernization
Bridgetown, Barbados – The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) is advising the public that its Mortuary will undergo a major renovation and modernization project, aimed at improving the safety, functionality, and overall quality of post-mortem services.
The project forms part of the Hospital’s ongoing modernization programme and will include the installation of a state-of-the-art negative-pressure ventilation system, improved separation of clinical and family areas, and other critical infrastructure upgrades. These enhancements are designed to meet modern healthcare standards while providing a safer, more dignified environment for families, staff, and all those who use the facility.
To facilitate these essential works, all Coroner’s and Hospital post-mortem examinations will be temporarily relocated to Tudor’s Funeral Home, The Ivy, effective Monday, July 20, 2026.
In addition, identification and viewing for post-mortem cases will also take place at Tudor’s Funeral Home for the duration of the project.
The renovation works are scheduled to commence on Monday, July 27, 2026, and are expected to take approximately eight to ten months to complete.
The QEH wishes to assure the public that this temporary relocation will not affect the quality or integrity of post-mortem services. Hospital staff will continue to work closely with families and the relevant authorities throughout the process, and anyone required to identify or view a loved one in connection with a post-mortem examination will be provided with the necessary guidance and support.
“This project represents an important investment in modernizing one of the Hospital’s essential clinical facilities,” said Gerry Warner, Acting Director of Support Services. “These upgrades will significantly improve the environment in which post-mortem services are delivered, strengthen infection prevention measures, and ensure that families receive services in a facility that reflects modern healthcare standards.”
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital apologizes for any inconvenience these temporary arrangements may cause and thanks the public for its patience and understanding as it continues to invest in improving healthcare infrastructure and the quality of services provided to the people of Barbados.
