QEH Releases 2025 Data Digest Highlighting Progress in Patient Care and Service Delivery

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) has published the 2025 edition of its QEH Data Digest, providing the public with a snapshot of the Hospital’s performance, key achievements, service utilisation and strategic investments over the past three years. Compiled by the Health Planning Team, the Digest demonstrates how data is being used to guide decision-making, strengthen services and support the Hospital’s ongoing transformation.

Among the highlights is the commissioning of the Hospital’s state-of-the-art Linear Accelerator, a major milestone in cancer care that has enhanced the delivery of image-guided radiation therapy and improved treatment precision and patient safety. The Digest also highlights the expansion of antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention initiatives, strengthening Barbados’ response to antimicrobial resistance through enhanced surveillance, responsible antibiotic use and improved infection prevention and control practices.

The publication also showcases several infrastructure improvements designed to enhance patient care and operational resilience. These include the installation of an additional 450-pound industrial washer to increase laundry processing capacity, refurbishment of the Main Kitchen floor to support safe food preparation, and the installation of storm shutters at the Main Operating Theatre to help ensure continuity of surgical services during severe weather.

Significant investments in medical technology also feature prominently in the report. During the reporting period, the Hospital acquired a Digital 1.5 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) System valued at approximately $6.8 million, together with a 3D Digital Surgical Ophthalmic Microscope System, an Endoscopy Ultrasound System, High Resolution Diagnostic Video Nasolaryngoscopes, and a Surgical Laser System. These investments continue to expand the Hospital’s diagnostic and surgical capabilities while supporting the delivery of modern, patient-centred care.

Beyond these achievements, the Data Digest provides insights into emergency and outpatient services, inpatient admissions, pharmacy operations, radiology, oncology, nephrology, finances, philanthropy and patient experience, offering a comprehensive overview of the Hospital’s work and the impact of continued investment in healthcare services.
