In this episode of the QEH Pulse Radio Show, host Shane Sealy is joined by Dr. Gillian Birchwood, Head of Paediatrics, Consultant Neonatologist and NICU Lead at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, to discuss Barbados’ new Comprehensive Newborn Screening Programme.

The programme, launched in partnership with the Shore Centre for Pediatric Excellence, expands newborn screening beyond traditional tests to include screening for nearly 50 serious conditions that may not show symptoms at birth but can significantly affect a child’s health and development if left undetected.

Dr. Birchwood also explains what parents can expect after delivery and why participating in the screening programme can help give children the best possible start in life.
