QEH Provides Update on Operating Theatre Capacity and Restoration Efforts

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) has been operating at reduced capacity in its Operating Theatres since January due to issues with air-conditioning units.

Six of the hospital’s nine theatres were affected. However, QEH Management, in collaboration with consultants, has optimized the use of the three remaining operational theatres by extending schedules and increasing flexibility to continue procedures.

The theatre air handling maintenance provider TMR has been working closely with the QEH on a long-term solution, including the installation of new equipment to safely restore full theatre capacity. While some delays have occurred, efforts are underway to have the affected theatres back in operation as early as this week.
Emergency surgeries and urgent cases have continued without interruption, and elective procedures are being actively managed. The hospital anticipates a return to normal operations in the coming days as additional theatres come back online.

QEH has been contacting affected patients to provide updates. Patients who have not yet received information on their care are encouraged to contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS/Help Desk) at 536-4800 or the QEH PBX at 436-6450 for further assistance.

The hospital remains committed to resolving this issue promptly and ensuring the safe and timely care of all patients.
