QEH Confirms Fire Incident Contained; All Patients Safe
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) has confirmed that a small fire occurred earlier today (02/08/26) on the Hospital compound this morning and was quickly brought under control.
The incident was identified shortly before 11:00 a.m., after which emergency protocols were activated. QEH staff responded immediately, containing the fire and relocating patients from a small number of areas as a precaution. No injuries were reported, and all patients remain safe.
Some wards have already been reoccupied, while cleaning and ventilation works continue in other affected areas due to smoke. These areas will reopen once it is confirmed they are safe.
As a result, members of the public were asked to defer non-urgent visits during the 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. visiting period to allow staff to complete cleaning operations. Visiting is expected to resume as normal from 4:00 p.m., with exceptions made for urgent circumstances.
The Hospital thanks patients, families, and the wider public for their patience and cooperation.
