New Paediatric Equipment Donated to QEH by CIBC Caribbean and Partners

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) has received a significant boost to its Paediatric Department with the presentation of $75,000 in new equipment. The contribution was made possible through the Rotary Club of Barbados South Charitable Trust with donations from CIBC Caribbean and Bridge Supermarket.
The donation includes a range of specialised furniture and equipment such as toddler beds, infant bassinets, a kyelle emergency and rest chair (also known as a kangaroo chair), a triad treatment chair, and bedside cabinets. Together, these items will help improve comfort and safety for young patients while allowing staff to deliver care in a more efficient and family-centred environment.
Head of Paediatrics, Dr. Gillian Birchwood, extended appreciation to the Rotary Club of Barbados South Charitable Trust, CIBC Caribbean, and Bridge Supermarket. She noted that the new equipment will strengthen day-to-day clinical work in the unit and enhance the overall patient and family experience.
This initiative originated when Dr. Erin Trotman identified the need for additional paediatric equipment and approached the Rotary Club of Barbados South for assistance. The Trust Committee agreed to partner with Dr. Trotman and her parents, Maria and Michael Trotman, owners of Bridge Supermarket. CIBC Caribbean was invited to join as the major sponsor, and the team coordinated the sourcing and purchase of the items.
CIBC Caribbean’s contribution of $40,000 was provided through the bank’s ComTrust Foundation, which supports projects across Health and Wellness, Youth and Education, and the Environment. The project also received support from members of the Rotary Club of Barbados South, including Past President Marcel Murrell and current President Jacklyn Broomes.
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital thanks all partners for their commitment to paediatric care and for helping to ensure that children and families benefit from improved comfort, safety, and quality of care on the ward.
