Celebrating World Anaesthesia Day 2025: Anaesthesiology in Health Emergencies

On October 16, 2025, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital joined the global medical community in marking World Anaesthesia Day, celebrating 170 years of advancing patient safety under the theme “Anaesthesiology in Health Emergencies.”

Appearing on Mornin’ Barbados, Dr. Karisha Hinkson, Anaesthesiologist at the QEH, shared insights into how the field has evolved—from early anaesthetic practices to today’s cutting-edge techniques that keep patients safe and comfortable through every stage of care. She also discussed the vital role anaesthesiologists play in emergency response, surgery, and critical care, and encouraged young professionals to consider this dynamic and rewarding field.
