World Sight Day – Open Day


On Thursday October 10th 2019, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Department of Ophthalmology joins with the international Ophthalmic community in recognising World Sight Day.

World Sight Day is an annual initiative by the International Association for the Prevention of Blindness which aims to draw attention to a range of issues surrounding blindness and visual impairment. Notably, 1.3 billion people worldwide live with some form of visual impairment, of which 75% is due to avoidable causes.

Open Day Activities

We will be hosting an Open Day in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Eye Clinic between the hours of 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. There will be a range of educational booths and public lectures delivered by staff, focusing on the overall mandate of bringing awareness to the aforementioned global concerns.

  • Public Lecture 1 – The Barbados Glaucoma Society Talk : “Stand Up and Be Counted!”
    Presenter: Dr. Dawn Grosvenor (Glaucoma Specialist)

  • Public Lecture 2 – “Diabetes & The Eye”
    Presenters: Registered Nurses Tisia Cumberbatch and Melanie Bynoe
    Time: 2:00 p.m.
