It is our distinct pleasure to congratulate Dr. David Byer, on being awarded the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his outstanding contribution in the field of emergency medicine. Dr. Byer , a trained Emergency Physician, is the Consultant in charge of the Emergency Ambulance Service; an Associate Lecturer in Emergency Medicine at the University of the West Indies; and the Medical Coordinator for pre-hospital emergency care courses at the Barbados Community College. In addition to his contribution to the field of emergency medicine locally, Dr. Byer is also the Medical Director for the Caribbean Association of Fire Chiefs (CAFC) regionally.
Congratulations are also expressed to retiree Mrs. Jean Holder, on being conferred the honour of Member of the British Empire (MBE) for her sterling contribution to nursing with specific emphasis in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology. Following her completion of nursing school in 1971 as a registered nurse, Jean Holder began her 43 year stint here at the QEH, where she entered into retirement having climbed the ranks to become Assistant Matron.
