The hot blazing sun and temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius could not deter what was an historic occasion. Scores of staff heeded the clarion call of the 60th Anniversary Committee, gathering on the QEH playing field to form: “The Human 60”.

The commemorative photo was captured by drone, with all departments represented in the symbolic formation of #QEH60.

The video and images will be used as part of a production titled “Making of the Human 60.”

Paediatric ICU Celebrates World PICU Day

Our dedicated Paediatric team was all smiles on World PICU Day

Our team in the Department of Paediatrics joined medical personnel across the globe in celebrating World PICU Day on Friday May 10th, 2024. The Paediatric Intensive Care Unit staff held their fourth annual event in the Boardroom of our hospital, with interactive discussion focusing on Rehabilitation in Critical Care, Post Cardiac Arrest Syndrome and a simulation. PICU reports for 2022 and 2023 were also presented during the forum.

Nurses' Week 2024 Opens

It will be yet another busy week for our nurses who will be showcasing their many talents during Nurses’ Week 2024. The week which started on Sunday May 12th and runs until Saturday May 18th is packed with activities.

On Tuesday May 14th the big “Open Day” event, is expected to draw participants from a wide cross section of the hospital and external partners. Other big activities planned at our hospital include the Nurses Community Outreach in the Private Entrance ca rpark on Thursday and on Friday, the Games Day and Cultural Extravaganza in the QEH Cafeteria.

Barbados Asthma Association Revives AED Partnership

President of the Barbados Asthma Association Rosita Pollard (third from left) made the presentation to Head of the Accident and Emergency Department, Consultant, Dr Anne- Marie Cruickshank.

A renewed pledge of support from the Barbados Asthma Association for the Asthma Bay in the Accident and Emergency Department. It came in the form of 42 Peak Flow Meters, 36 Spacers (valued at approx. BDS $165,000), along with some books, pamphlets and other educational material donated to the department on World Asthma Day.  According to Head of AED, Consultant, Dr. Anne-Marie Cruickshank these tools will form part of the department’s public educational outreach, highlighting the importance of using the donated devices to better assess and manage asthma.
